Japanese Palace at 8445 Camp Bowie West Boulevard has been Fort Worth's most famous teppanyaki restaurant since 1975 — the first Japanese restaurant and first sushi bar in the city, owned by the same local family for 50-plus years. Hibachi grills set the ambiance, and patrons are treated to a show of master chefs creating billowing clouds of steam and flames. The 1970s-style original bar is preserved as a working time-capsule of the era and is a must-see. The teppanyaki menu runs chicken, New York strip, filet mignon, ocean scallops, lobster, and the Emperor's Dinner — a full spread of steak, lobster, shrimp, tempura, and sake — all prepared tableside with brandy flames and showmanship. The sushi bar covers nigiri, sashimi, rolls, and chef's choice platters. Pirikara chicken, shrimp tempura, and edamame round out the appetizers. A Fort Worth west side institution that has never needed to change because it got it right from the start. Open for dinner nightly from 5pm.
